Features of the VW Cosmo Campervan

• Sleeps up to three Space Travellers with a bigger than king-size bed in the rear, plus a large single bed in the pop-top loft. The pop-top roof opens from inside for standing room and extra sleeping space.
• Custom-designed interior kitchen with 2-ring hob, sink with running water and 75-litre fridge. The swivel front seats create a comfortable dining area or desk with the removable table, perfect for your morning coffee and breakfast with a view.
• No gas bottles needed. The 2-ring hob and heating both run directly from the diesel fuel tank (keep at least a quarter tank aka 25% to run the heater and stove).
• Fixed toilet hidden discreetly under the bed for camping flexibility.
• Touchscreen controls for easy operation and USB charging ports.
• Leisure battery (second battery) to keep you powered on during extended off-grid camping adventures.
• Unique flat battery recovery function to jumpstart the main battery if you accidentally drain it.

Easy to Drive VW Camper

The VW Cosmo is super easy to drive and park, making it perfect for navigating New Zealand’s diverse landscapes in any season. From the winding coastal roads of the Coromandel to the mountain passes of the South Island, the Spaceships VW campervans handle it all with ease.

The 2-litre diesel engine delivers excellent fuel efficiency and the elevated campervan cab gives you stunning views of New Zealand's scenery. The VW Cosmo drives as easy a car but is a true adventure mobile. With both automatic (orange van) and manual (blue van) transmissions to choose from you’ll be king of the road! When you book the Cosmo directly at Spaceships you get to select the gearbox you prefer: automatic or manual transmission. Both are great rides and just as easy to drive.

Step inside and the Cosmo feels less like a campervan rental and more like your own little outpost. The kitchen’s stocked with all the gear you need and the bigger than king size bed is ready with cosy bedding waiting for you at touchdown. When the temperature drops, the diesel powered heater keeps you toasty so curl up with a book, cook a warm meal or dive into your remote work and watch the night roll in.

Stay Off-Grid Longer in New Zealand

Spaceships VW campervan rentals are designed for freedom camping and remote adventures. The leisure battery lets you camp off-grid for longer periods of time, while the dining table doubles as a desk and the power/USB ports keep your devices charged. When you want mains power, simply use the electric hook-up at holiday parks and campsites throughout New Zealand. The portable toilet stored under the bed gives you flexibility at remote campsites, and when you don’t need it, it’s completely out of sight.

Diesel & Road User Charges

The Spaceships Cosmo runs on diesel meaning Road User Charges (RUCs) apply and are charged at the end of your trip. Head to our Support Station (FAQ) for full details on how RUCs work. Just remember to keep the tank at least 25% full, it’s what keeps your heater and stove running!
