The Sigma is Spaceships latest generation campervan interior design, built specifically for real New Zealand missions - for rainy days when you need more space, where laptop battery matters as much as fuel range and where off-grid capability means freedom, not compromise. Here’s a little more detail on what the Sigma features and why.

Driving the Sigma Campervan

Built on the Toyota Estima, the Spaceships Sigma drives just like a regular car with automatic transmission, power steering and a reversing camera making it easy for anyone to drive, even without previous campervan experience. As it’s a compact camper (only 4.8m long), the Sigma fits in standard a car park and easily navigates New Zealand's famous winding roads.

Before you hit the road, it’s worth running through a couple basic checks and adjustments so you feel confident from the moment you launch:

• Change the driver's seat position so you’re sitting comfortably before adjusting anything else.
• Adjust the side mirrors so traffic beside and around you is visible, then set up the rear-view mirror to cover what’s directly behind you.
• Check that you know where the indicators are, along with the lights and windscreen wipers before starting the engine.

Self-Contained & Off-Grid Road Tripping

A fixed cassette toilet and 25L fresh and grey water tanks are what earn the Sigma its Green Sticker self-containment (2026-2030) so you can freedom camp with ease at campgrounds all over New Zealand. The off-grid power comes from a smart leisure battery charged by a roof mounted solar panel, with a 220V inverter for powering devices. Choose to plug in with a type I plug (a usual New Zealand plug type) or use any of the USB ports, both A and C, located around the vehicle. 

A touch screen control panel displays the current battery charge and water tank levels at all times so you can easily keep an eye on things in even the most remote locations. If worst comes to worst and you end up with a flat battery, there’s even a flat battery recovery system built in. With just the simple press of a button, you can jump start the Sigma on the spot.

Campervan Kitchen

The kitchen is located at the rear of the van in a storage box, easily accessed when the tailgate is open. Use the handles to lift the lid of the box revealing the integrated fridge and sink along with all the included cooking gear:

• 2x gas cooker & canisters
• Pot, pan and kettle
• Cutting board, knife, tongs, spatula, can opener, peeler, sieve
• Plates, mugs, cups and cutlery

With everything you need on hand you’ll feel right at home at any campground, even those without a campsite kitchen or powered sites. The gas stoves run independently off the van’s battery, so cooking doesn’t draw on the power used for the fridge or lighting.

Sleeping & Interior Comfort

The double bed measures 1.40m wide x 1.92m long, extending to 2.15m on one side so you or your tall Space Traveller buddy have lots of space to fully lay down. All sleeping gear is supplied so there is no need to hire bedding separately. Set up the rear awning and shift your bed set up to the back to get an awesome star gazing experience through the clear roof panels.

During the day, find the swivel table located under the bench seat. Slide the table base into place, adjust and lock into position, then swivel into a spot that suits you. The table works perfectly indoors and outdoors so you’ll have a functional table top and seating area no matter the weather.

Safe Storage

A large storage box is fitted under the bed as well as a lockable one in the rear giving you a dedicated, secure spot for luggage, valuables and other gear that’s out of sight and separate from the living space. This can be especially useful on longer trips to help keep your temporary home on wheels tidy and for leaving your things locked away while out exploring during the day.
