Our COVID-19 Travel Promise gives you the freedom to start planning the ultimate adventure without having to worry about what will happen if things change due to COVID-19. At Spaceships, we like to keep things as easy as possible therefore it is good to know that you can:
Change or update your booking for free
Cancel at any time or postpone your booking. We'll issue travel credit (voucher) that can be used within 2 years in all countries where Spaceships operates.
Pay a low deposit now to make a booking! You will never lose your deposit!
We guarantee your deposit is never lost and can be moved to a future travel date.
No fee for young drivers. Anyone 18 years or older with a valid driving licence can hire & drive a Spaceships campervan.
No hidden fees. unlimited kilometres, cooking & sleeping gear & extra driver are all included. The price you see is the price you'll pay,
Free to change booking before the scheduled day of pick-up (as often as needed). Extra flexibility so you can book with confidence.
Lowest Price Promise & Price Match Service
Our advanced yet easy to use booking system will always:
give you the lowest price that is available on the selected date-route combo
automatically apply discounts that are available
give you the option to lock in the price for several days. Simply create an online quote and email it to yourself to lock in the price. It won't lock in a campervan as availability will be checked once you turn your quote into a booking, but the price will be locked in for several days!

And we like to keep things as simple & easy as possible. You will find all details on the Terms & Conditions page, but to make life easier we have listed all things you can expect from us. It is more than just a worry-free booking or pick-up process. If things do happen on the road it is good to know what will be refunded and what won't be. Check it out.
In case of a problem or an issue, it's good to know that:
Your Spaceships campervan comes with 24-hour roadside assistance
Third-Party incidents are always covered (no matter the insurance option you have). A third party incident is accidentally damaging someone else’s vehicle or property.
Spaceships will cover any damage to the vehicle in the event of attempted theft or break-in (regardless of the insurance/excess option you selected)
Mechanical breakdown (not caused by you the hirer)
If there's a mechanical breakdown that isn't caused by you, we will:
Pay for any tows of the vehicle
Pay for all the costs associated with the mechanical failure
Refund you the hire days you weren't able to use your Spaceships campervan
Refund any accommodation costs (up to NZ$200 per night) if you are unable to sleep in your Spaceship due to a mechanical fault (receipts must be provided).
Not fully satisfied with our service?
If you are unsatisfied with the service you received from Spaceships, you'll get a 5% credit note towards any future booking with Spaceships New Zealand, Australia or the UK/Europe.
Things we don't refund
At Spaceships, we like to be as transparent as possible. We've told you what we'll do for you on your #spaceshipsroadtrip and the stuff that we refund/replace... However, there are situations or items that won't be refunded.
Accessories not used on hire
Call out fees for non-mechanical events
If you didn't report the problem to Spaceships within 24 hours
Tyre(s) replacement on Standard Insurance and Partial Excess Insurance
International calling charges. We provide a free NZ SIM card with your booking (subject to availability)
Early returns. You can return early but there won't be a refund for the unused days
Cancellations made on the day of pick up. See our cancellation policy for more info.
Bad weather, natural disasters or road closures. Weather can change in New Zealand, it's part of life on the road (four seasons in one day).
Unused hire days caused by driver error, misuse of the vehicle or acts of God (natural disasters & pandemics)
Any associated costs or fees involved in non-mechanical repairs such as towing and salvage. This also includes food & accommodation and activities.
Credit Card fees. Banks and credit card companies charge us that fee, so that's a cost that we have to pay. We recommend paying online (deposit and remaining balance) because then there are no payment fees. We only charge a fee for offline credit card payments.
How we make it a worry-free process
Additional driver(s) can be added free of charge.
One-way travel: drop off at another depot at no extra charge.
Unlimited mileage - You're on unlimited kilometres (mileage) so you can see more of New Zealand no matter how far you drive,
Contactless pick-up & drop-off: 24/7, 365 days a year.
Free to make changes! Updating a booking before pick-up is free, no matter how often you need to make changes (subject to availability)
Never lose your deposit! If you can't cancel for free anymore, we'll turn it into travel credit for you so it can be used up to 2 years later in New Zealand, Australia of the UK.
We check & clean your campervan thoroughly before it goes out onto the road!

To make your life as easy as possible and to remove any stress or worries, we have created a campervan booking process that will make you feel relaxed again. Free cancellation and a guarantee that you will never lose your deposit. It'll make planning your road trip a whole lot easier.
Spaceships crew members are travellers just like you. We understand that plans can change and that being flexible is super important. Therefore, we added all kinds of awesome features to our campervan booking process, making our booking process the most worry-free campervan booking process you have ever seen!
Yes, that is correct. You can book your campervan online at thelowest price (guaranteed)and cancel your booking free of charge if your plans change. Free cancellation can be done within 7 days of making the booking (from the date on your booking confirmation).
Missed out on the free cancellation window?
Then our other flexible booking options kick in. If you missed out on the free cancellation policy then you can still cancel. Instead of charging a cancellation fee like other rental companies do (which means you'll lose your money), we will turn that amount into credit. You can use that credit within 2 years in all countries in the Spaceships Universe: Australia, New Zealand and the UK. You can even give the credit to a friend or family member. That means you will never lose the deposit paid.
Update your booking free of charge
If your travel plans change, you can always update your booking free of charge. Just let us know and we’ll change your travel dates (subject to availability). No need to cancel your booking… Simply postpone your booking by changing your travel dates. This can be done as often as needed. We never charge a fee to make these changes, but the daily price of your rental could be higher or lower due to seasonal fluctuations. But there will never be a fee charged to make a change like that.
Postponing your booking (changing your booking dates) is always free of charge, as long as it's done before the scheduled day of pick-up.
How do you know it’s a safe and clean campervan?
We promise you it’ll be an awesome #spaceshipsroadtrip when you book a Spaceships campervan in New Zealand. All our vehicles go through rigorous safety & cleaning processes and checks. Our in-house mechanics service each vehicle to the highest New Zealand standards, every 15,000 kilometres. Not just any Toyota Estima can call itself a Spaceship.
Contactless pick-up & drop-off aka after-hours is free
Is your flight scheduled to arrive late or super early? No worries, you can pick up your Spaceships campervan at any time of the day or night. Picking up outside of opening hours is another free service at Spaceships. This means you can pick up your campervan 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
When contactless (after-hours) pick-up or drop-off is active, you can arrive at the depot at any time you like. There are no fixed times for after-hours (contactless) pick-up & drop-off. Just be a the depot on the scheduled day of pick-up. No staff member will be on-site, it is a fully automated process.
